Mobile arcade punches up parties
Ken Moore, owner of Games2U, a mobile entertainment company that specializes in birthdays, corporate parties and community events, gets ready to play XBOX with Assistant game coach Matt Yao on Wednesday afternoon.
Roswell resident Ken Moore, along with his nephew Brian, has launched a new venture aimed at making birthday parties and other get-togethers fun and easy.
Games2U is an arcade built into a truck, which has been installed with three plasma TV monitors and all of the newest video game systems like Wii, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360.
"We bring everything to the parties and set everything up," Moore said. "And we just tell mom to sit back and relax while we take care of the kids."
In addition to the video games, Moore can bring along outdoor laser tag, a human hamster ball — giant inflatable balls kids roll around in — and a dodge ball game.
"Most kids want to do the human hamster ball and the laser tag," Moore said. "But the video games are a big hit, too, because up to 12 kids can play games like Halo at the same time."
Moore, who spent 20 years in corporate IT, started his company in March after looking for a franchise to invest in.
"I was really excited about it because it's something I'd never heard of," he said. "My two daughters said this was what I should do."
Since then, Moore said his phone has been ringing off the hook. The company was booked for more than 10 parties last week.
"The kids really like it because it's something new and unique," he said. "And even the parents get in on the fun."
The average Games2U party price is $299 for a one-and-a-half-hour party including two of the four events Moore offers.
Additional time is prorated at $50 per half hour. Prices vary depending on equipment, attendance and party length.
